SDTKD Grading Students With Master Taaffe & Master Browne

Congratulations all SDTKD Students who trained so hard for their Summer Grading this year. From a review of the results it appears to be the highest standard grading our club has had to date. There was an exceptional amount of double grades issued, something we don’t take too lightly at SDTKD and don’t like making a habit of issuing, but comments & recommendations made by vising Master Anthony Brown coupled with club training history & contribution have led to a total of 8 being issued as detailed below. Please don’t worry if you were not one of the students who got a double grade, they are not commonly issued and students should be delighted with their single grade advance in taekwondo. One step closer to black.

Each student in attendance contributed greatly to the day, whether some of the little ones bringing a smile to examiners face, some of our veterans putting in superb performances of any of the many different groups we have within our club putting in fantastic displays of Poomsae, Self Defence, Breaking Demos, Technical Movements, all round it was a delight to oversee from the top table.

SDTKD Grading’s which typically have all students present for the whole duration typically have as much student interpretation possible, with much of the direction given by examiners ‘open’ as a blank canvass for a student to show the full extent of their ability & taekwondo knowledge. Saturdays 3 hour grading grading was composed of:

• Warm Up
• Technical Movements
• Poomsae
• Freestyle taekwondo presentation
• 1 Step Sparring
• Self Defence
• Pad Kicking
• Breaking Demos
• Poomsae Rules
• Kyorugi Rules
• Poomsae Names / Numbers of Moves / Meanings
• Random Korean Language

There of course is still many areas to improve, and many of our students will get some individual prompters on areas they can improve on, most notably throughout the club would be the demeanour of a student sitting grading, which should exude confidence & control. There were a small handful of students who fell just short of being included in the double grades, perhaps because of some areas where thy could be a bit more ‘confident’.

Thanks to all who contributed so valuably to the occasion including all who attended Friday night to set up the hall, junior black belts & black tags who came along to help out, all the parents who came along to watch from the balcony, all those who cleared up the hall after, all the students who trained so hard through summer, and in particular any coaches who have played some part in coaching our gang to their current grade today.

SDTKD would like to mention a special word of praise for all of our students who participited in the grading in gruelling summer heat whilst they were currently in their Ramadan fasting.

Next on the SDTKD grading agenda will be an important review of Black tag students on Wednesday night ahead of the upcoming Preliminary Black Belt grading on 27^th July where the delivery of performances will be expected to be no less than 100% as the bar was set extremely high by your predecessors last year.

We will aslo conduct our mini-grading on Thursday 1st August at 7.30pm for all those who were unavailable or not quite ready for full grading. Beginners with 3 months training welcome. Students should register online.
